December 15, 2003 By: Sare Wood Website: http://www.kitchen-dinnerware.com Kosher kitchen renovated at Franklin & Marshall's Hillel House A lead gift of $18,000 from Franklin & Marshall alumnus Bruce R. Levin '88 and his wife, Dorie, has resulted in the total renovation of the college's Hillel House kitchen, which will now be known as the Levin Kosher Kitchen. Additional funding for the renovation was made possible through alumni donations. Since 1967, Hillel has served as the center of the Jewish experience at Franklin & Marshall. The college's Hillel chapter is one of the most active small college chapters in the country. The kitchen, which had not been significantly updated for 30 years, now has new cabinets and countertops, dual sinks, two dishwashers, two stovetops, two oven units, a microwave, new cookware, dishes and silverware, and new lighting fixtures. Franklin & Marshall College President John A. Fry, who spoke at the kitchen's dedication ceremony on October 26 during the college's Alumni Weekend, said one of the goals of the college is to strengthen the campus community so that it becomes a place where individuals of diverse backgrounds can come together in comfortable surroundings. Hillel is one of the campus organizations that helps us maintain a diverse environment at Franklin & Marshall College. Levin received his bachelor's in economics from the college and went on to earn an M.B.A. from Rutgers in 1995. A member of the college's Alumni Board, and a former president of Hillel, he is associate director for information and knowledge management at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Plainsboro, N.J.
