Noritake china makes both Bone china and Porcelain china. Usually the bone china is more expensive, but there are exceptions to that depending on the pattern. Noritake has four families of fine china, separating both the bone and the porcelain up into two colors: White and Ivory.
With Bone china, atleast for their current products, you get way more selection if you look at White instead of Ivory. In thier porcelain line, the selection is much more balanced.
When shopping for your china sets, if you haven't started collecting a certain set yet, you should find out when Noritake plan on discontinuing that pattern. They are very good about telling you when a pattern will stop production on thier website, letting you know nearly 2 years ahead of time.
Once a pattern is discontinued, it becomes harder and harder to find, and your resale value may go down if your pattern isn't very popular. Unlike many other collectibles, in china, the more common the pattern, the more valuable, since more people are looking for replacement peices.
Noritake also make casual dinnerware & stoneware, with far fewer pattern design than their fine china.
